斗智斗勇
以前看lueke跟各种customer service斗智斗勇的故事只觉得津津有味。这回俺也终于披挂上阵过瘾了一把。俺住的楼在房宝宝搬走前常年喜欢断网,夏天让我们花钱另买了ADSL modern后网络倒是不断了,但是极慢无比,完全无法发任何邮件附件,哪怕只有几K。楼下师弟跟我商量一起装mediacom的问题。我恼了,给房东写了一封巨长的有理有据有节的信。虽然实质是威胁明年不续租,但是口气是希望他们能出面给ICS施压,因为ICS与他们签约,我的电话对他们并无多少威慑力。
房东回信了,说没想到换成ADSL后居然更糟,本来以为这样可以解决问题的,promise我会与ICS联系。过了没几天,我看到每家门上都贴着notice说这几天上网可能会要求你register,register后可以保证1.4M的速度云云。我试了试,现在网络果然顺畅了。昨天下午接到ICS电话,问我现在网络是不是还有问题,我龙心大悦地表扬了他们。回头想想,ICS为什么会给我打电话,显然是房东把我的email forward给他们了嘛。看来这招还是管用。

I’ve reached my bottom line in the past weeks that I have to send you this email. Yes I’m complaining about out internet service. I called them several times but still can’t solve the problem. Maybe the service fee is included in the rent so that we as end-customers cannot give them enough pressure. I sincerely hope you can forward our concern to the ICS and urge them to take real actions.
Frankly, I like my current apartment. It has the perfect floorplan which I want so I thought I would stay here as long as I’m living in Ames. However, this internet service is giving me more and more headache. Ever since we moved into this apartment, we have service outage from time to time. I had to drive to school at 12:30AM to submit a paper before the deadline only because my internet service was dead. I was mad at that time. This summer they decided to change our service from the old one to ADSL. This pushed us to spend $45 more on the new modem. I don’t need to talk about details of this procedure as I believe you must have received many complains about it. Anyway, it’s still a good thing if we can get better service after we paid more money. However, the situation only became worse to our apartment. We don’t have as many service outage as before but the internet speed became extremely slow. The service is so slow that I can barely check my email. I called them, with a little hope that they can at least improve the situation for me. They did, for only several hours. After several hours, everything went back.
I know some people in our building are using Mediacom broad-band internet service because they cannot bare ICS service any more. But I don’t think this is the right solution. Internet is important to me and I believe I should get service if I paid for it. I understand maybe you’ve already signed long-term contract with ICS. In worst case the only thing I can do is to move out next year. But I do think I should let you know about this situation. Hopefully somebody can work out a solution.
